Qi Wang

Graduate Research Assistant
Biography

Qi Wang is an MD-PhD graduate student at University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine’s Medical Scientist Training Program, for which she is pursuing a PhD in Dr. Kristan Worthington’s lab. She graduated Cum Laude, and with Edmund B. James Scholar Honors, Department Distinction and Dean’s List from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in chemical and biomolecular engineering and molecular and cellular biology. Before coming to Iowa, she worked at Mayo Clinic conducting research using Measles viral vector as a gene delivery system for induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSCs) generation, and at the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute as a Postbaccalaureate Fellow in the iPSCs core facility, where she developed skills in CRISPR gene editing in iPSCs. Her current research revolves around designing and testing photopolymerizable biomaterial mechanical properties and chemistry, with the objectives of developing an in vitro model for studying pulmonary fibrosis and developing a globally affordable and accessible biomaterial that may be used as a resorbable filler for mucoperiosteal defects created during cleft palate repair.

Outside of lab, she enjoys playing Guzheng (a traditional Chinese instrument), figure skating, golfing, skiing, yoga, and scuba diving. She is also a foodie that enjoys dining out, cooking and baking.
